Karen’s Commentary: These instructions come from Susan Doggett, a state and federally licensed wildlife rehabilitator who lives right here in Wonder Valley! If you find a wild bird that needs assistance, place it in a clean cardboard box or paper sack lined with a clean towel. Be sure that there are air holes in the box or bag BEFORE you place the bird inside. Keep the bird comfortably warm, but not too hot. For baby birds, you may need to place the box on top of a heating pad set on low until you can find help. Do not attempt to feed the bird and do not force it to drink. You may place a small water dish near injured adult birds, but baby birds should not be allowed near water as they can become chilled easily if they get wet or they may accidentally drown. Contact Susan at 714-637-8355 from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. any day of the week, or the State of California Department of Fish and Game at 858-467-4201.

Handy Hint: Even if you have insurance, ask whether your prescription will cost less if you pay for the drug directly. Sometimes that price is less than your insurance co-pay. (Karen’s Note: I paid 57 CENTS for a 30-day prescription at RiteAid the other day!)

Today’s Thought: The “funny bone” is a nerve, “catgut” is made from sheep, “French fries” were invented in Belgium, “koala bears” are marsupials and a “ten-gallon hat” holds only about three quarts of liquid.
Until next time . . . remember to take time to enjoy the WONDERs all around us.
