Can you support a Wonder Valley student?

Hi Everyone,

There are 4 or 5 WV residents in the process of registering for the EMR and FIRE 001 classes at Copper Mountain College. These are the classes required for people to become Paid Call Firefighters. In addition to the cost of classes and books, the students are required to have the following tools in their Emergency Medical Response kit:
TOTAL $34.46

If you would like to help one or more of the students with the cost of these tools I’m sure it would be most appreciated. I have included the Amazon links and the prices. Please let me know if you want to help and I’ll let the students know that a kit is being donated to them by the community.

I am SO proud of these resident/students and am looking forward to a graduation party in December. There’s still time if you want to sign up for the Fall session - every other Monday from 3 - 6 p.m. for the semester. Fire 001 is online.

Contact me with any questions - phone (760) 865-9550, or by email at teresa.sitz@gmail.com

MAC volunteer finishes fire courses

Teresa Sitz directs an 80 gpm fog nozzle on a 2-1/2" line
I started summer school in June, taking the Emergency Medical Responder training and Fire Hydraulics. Five weeks later and after a whole lot of work, I finished the two courses with A's.

I apologize for not being able to post as much, but now that classes are over I can get back to a regular schedule.

Three or four other Wonder Valley residents are taking the Fall Emergency Medical Responder course starting the week of August 15. The EMR course includes CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation) and the use of an AED (automated external defibrillator).

We're RECRUITING for Paid Call Firefighters in Wonder Valley!

This is the Morrisville Volunteer/PCF Fire Department.
They look alot like us!
Enrollment is open for EMR and FIRE classes at Copper Mountain College. If you’d like to take either/both of the classes below, please register as soon as possible so you can begin school the week of August 15.

NOW BEFORE YOU RUN SCREAMING NO!!! - please consider that the FIRE class is a completely online course - pretty much self-paced, and the EMR class meets every other Monday from 3-6 p.m. for 18 weeks. Easy peasy!

Here’s what you want to sign up for:

FIRE 001-50 Fire Protection Organizations ONLINE
EMR 001-01 Emergency Medical Responder CMC Campus

These are both 3-unit classes. A unit costs $46. If you need help paying for the class or books, sign up for a BOG (Board of Governers) waiver. 95% of CMC students do this.

Start by going to: http://www.cmccd.edu/ and click on the link that says:
[ APPLY TO CMC NOW! ]

I am taking the accelerated EMR and FIRE HYDROLOGY classes right now, during the summer session. That’s 18 weeks in 16 days. Compared to what I'm doing YOUR experience will be a cakewalk!

It would be IDEAL if several Wonder Valleyites took the class together and we began forming the camaraderie and team building that will make the Wonder Valley Paid Call Fire Department a cornerstone of our community. If several community members take the class, I will attend as well and help out, and we can carpool.

If you want to do this and need ANY help registering, getting your equipment, with transportation, whatever, please let either me, or the instructor James Brakebill, know and we will move heaven and earth to make this happen for you.

EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) Information Session

EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) Information Session
Saturday, April 16, 2016, from 2 PM - 4 PM
Wonder Valley Community Center
80526 1/2 Amboy Road, Wonder Valley, CA 92277

There will be an EMR Information Session on Saturday, April 16 from 2 - 4 p.m. at the Wonder Valley Community Center, 80526 ½ Amboy Road. Come find out why you, or someone you know, should take this training.

If the Community of Wonder Valley chooses to form its own Paid Call or Volunteer Firefighter program we will need to train and qualify community members to participate.

There are two steps to this process:

  1. Take and pass the EMR Training (in as little as one month)
  2. Take and pass the Firefighter Training (in as little as one semester)

Both of these programs are provided at Copper Mountain College and are scheduled to accommodate working people.

CLASS DETAILS
The next EMR training starts on June 13 and continues through July 13. Classes are on Monday through Thursday from 9 to 11:50 a.m. at Fire Station 422 in Desert Heights (north of Twentynine Palms). There are no requirements or prerequisites for taking this course. There is no age limit.

This is a 3 unit college course. The cost is $46.00 per unit for a total of $138.00, plus the cost of the textbook which is $125.00. Students are also responsible for purchasing a CPR Pocket Mask, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, and a pen light.

Some SCHOLARSHIPS and FEE WAIVERS may be available and we will have a Financial Aid Specialist from Copper Mountain College come to the Community Center in May to help people apply for financial aid and fee waivers. Please contact James Brakebill at jbrakebill@cmccd.edu AND Teresa Sitz at teresa.sitz@gmail.com if you are interested in registering for the EMR course. Attend the EMR Information Session to find out more and to talk one to one with students currently enrolled in the program.
